Village of Kalkaska
Railroad Square
Kalkaska, Michigan
Once an abandoned lumberyard in the heart of downtown Kalkaska, the new Railroad Square serves as a cultural and economic center that this community can gather around. This revitalized site includes a food truck court with a fire pit, a four-season events pavilion with restrooms and an incubator kitchen, facade improvements for the historical museum, a new clock tower fronting US-131, and street parking and storm water runoff improvements on the adjacent Maple Street. Landscape additions include an event lawn with bench seating, a pedestrian trail, and a plant buffer to guard the existing rail line.
